The Original King Bee and Queen Bee, Along With Their Traveling Companions, Betty and Archie, Welcome You to Sun Lakes 2001
Sun Lakes Park Resort is located within Sun Lakes State Park on Highway 17; 17 miles north of Soap Lake and 7 miles south of Coulee City. It is near the center of Washington State, approximately 3½ hours from Seattle and 2 hours from Spokane.
Jim's family has been vacationing at Park Lake since he was a baby. His Grandmother Violet Younk Wilson (sometime before or shortly after she was born the family changed their last name from Younk to Young) was born in the house that used to stand right behind the State Campground at Park Lake. When I started vacationing at Sun Lakes in 1980, the foundation was still visible on the old house, but now there is nothing left.
Sun Lakes has been a family tradition for the Wilson family for as long as they can remember. They have never missed a summer of vacationing at the park, and just can't imagine not being able to.
Jim and I kept this tradition going when we had our son Andrew in 1986. He is almost 17 now, and can't imagine not vacationing at Park Lake. He is an avid waterskier and golfer. We taught him to ski on Park Lake when he was 2 years old on a set of childrens trainer skis. He was such a good sport about the whole thing, and now he can't remember not knowing how to ski. He always purchases at least a weeks pass to the golf course so that he can golf a couple of times a day.
My parents had never been to Park Lake, but they started coming with us two years ago, bringing my sisters two young children. Athena, who is now four asks all year long when she gets to go back. My sister and her husband have joined us for short stays over the last two years as well, so I can see a new tradition of Sun Lakes starting with her family!
